Discover the Rossignol brand
Rossignol is not just a ski brand: it is an institution, a part of French sporting heritage, a symbol of the golden age of winter sports. With over 115 years of history, Rossignol has been there for every era of skiing, from the early pioneers of the sport to today's Olympic champions, including the explosion of mass skiing in the 1960s and 1970s.
This exceptional longevity can be explained by a unique ability to innovate while respecting heritage, to anticipate technical developments while remaining faithful to the original spirit of skiing. From handcrafted wooden skis to today's cutting-edge technologies, Rossignol has constantly pushed the boundaries of performance while working to make skiing accessible to as many people as possible. Throughout its century-long history, with its revolutionary innovations, exceptional sporting achievements, and recent diversification strategy, Rossignol remains an essential reference in the world of snow sports and mountaineering.
Did you know?
Abel Rossignol's workshop produced solid wood skis for the pioneers of alpine skiing. A few decades later, Rossignol would be at the origin of several technical revolutions, including the first metal ski (Allais 60, 1964) and the first fiberglass ski.
A brand born for skiing
From the outset, Rossignol stood out for its precision and craftsmanship. In 1907, Abel Rossignol, a carpenter with a passion for the mountains, handcrafted his first wooden skis. The brand quickly became a major player in competitive skiing, thanks in particular to innovations that would mark the decades: the first metal skis in 1964, then fiberglass skis in the 1970s.
Rossignol: a century of history and technical innovation
Jean-Claude Killy's triumph at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics, where he won three gold medals on Rossignol skis, propelled the brand to the top. During this period, Rossignol constantly innovated with Duraflex technologies (composite materials), monobloc skis, and the first integrated bindings.
The 1990s brought the parabolic ski revolution. Rossignol adapted with its "Cut" range and consolidated its position by acquiring Dynastar (1989), Lange (boots, 1989), Look (bindings, 1994), and Kerma (poles), forming a complete group.
The modern era has seen Rossignol diversify: strengthening its position in alpine skiing with innovative technologies such asAir Tip Technology (weight reduction in the tip), Line Control Technology to optimize snow contact, Paulownia (ultra-light wood) constructions, the R-Turn system to facilitate turning, and Powder Turn Rocker technologies for powder snow. The brand is significantly developing its Nordic skiing business with ultra-light carbon constructions and optimized camber systems.
From skiing to new disciplines
Rossignol is entering new markets: cycling (mountain biking and gravel biking) in 2018 and trail running in 2020. The Rossignol Design Lab, based in the Alps, centralizes all R&D efforts with systematic field essais conducted by professional athletes and engineers.
In alpine skiing, Rossignol offers one of the most comprehensive ranges on the market. The integration of the Lange (boots) and Look (bindings) brands allows Rossignol to offer complete and perfectly optimized packages.
Nordic skiing is a strategic segment where Rossignol equips many national teams and Olympic champions. The range includes skating and classic skis for all levels, biathlon models, and backcountry skis for Nordic touring. In snowboarding, Rossignol covers freeride, freestyle, all-mountain, and splitboard disciplines.
Its recent move into cycling in 2018 and then trail running (launched in 2020) is part of a strategy to capitalize on its expertise. This strategy allows Rossignol to be present in summer activities and positions it as a comprehensive outdoor brand.
