Define your snowboarding level and practice

To choose the right snowboard, it is essential to define your riding style, i.e. what you mainly do when you are on your board.

There are three main categories of snowboarding.

  • Freestyle: For those who spend their winter in a snow park. You like jumping, riding rails, and doing tricks on the slopes
  • Freeride: For those who swear by off-piste riding. For you, a day of carving on the slopes is a wasted day. You like to ride in big curves in fresh snow, pick up maximum speed, and make big slashes in snowdrifts
  • All-mountain: For those who don't like to choose! You like cruising on the slopes, jumping small tables in the park, venturing into the forest, and carving through a couloir. In short, you want versatility

Choosing the shape of your snowboard

The shape of the board consists of the shape of the board, the tips, and its flex. The shape determines the performance of your snowboard depending on how you ride it. There are two types of shapes: Twin Tip and directional.

Twin Tip shape

A Twin Tip board is symmetrical in terms of shape, flex, camber, and tip rise. The binding inserts are centered on the board. This type of shape is ideal for freestyle riding, makes it easier to ride switch, and is very easy to handle. A Twin Tip board is the perfect weapon for the park and tricks on the piste.

Directional shape

A directional board is asymmetrical. The front (nose) and rear (tail) are different, so the board has a riding direction. In general, the front tip is longer and more progressive. The inserts are offset towards the rear of the board. This type of snowboard is ideal for all-terrain riding and speed.

Choosing the right board size

For versatile use and an "average" build, it is best to choose a board that is 20 cm shorter than your height. If you are 1.80 m tall, we recommend choosing a 1.60 m board. Men or women with a larger build should choose the next size up, and those with a smaller build should choose the size below.

Pure freestylers can go down to -25 cm, and those who swear by big runs in powder snow can choose a board just below their height (from -10 to 0 cm).

To complete your setup and gain control, remember to choose men's snowboard boots that are suited to your riding style and size.
