Ski touring bindings

Touring ski bindings: combining performance and safety for your mountain adventures

Touring ski bindings are essential for any skier who wants to get up and down the mountains. Designed to allow natural movement when ascending while providing a solid hold when descending, they combine lightness, safety and performance.

How do you choose your ski touring bindings?

The choice of bindings depends on a number of criteria, such as your skiing style, your touring objectives and the type of terrain you want to explore. There are two main types of bindings: insert (or 'low tech') bindings and frame bindings.

Insert bindings (low tech): Known for their lightness and efficiency when climbing, these are ideal for performance-oriented skiers. Their low weight is an advantage on long tours, while maintaining a high level of safety on the way down.

Frame bindings: More robust and versatile, these are often preferred by those looking for a compromise between traditional alpine skiing and touring. They offer better power transmission downhill, but are heavier uphill.

Once you've chosen your bindings, it's advisable to ask a skiman to fit them and adjust them to the size of your ski boots.

Safety and compatibility

Bindings must be compatible with your ski touring boots. It is also crucial to ensure that they are correctly adjusted to guarantee safe release in the event of a fall, thereby reducing the risk of injury. Most modern bindings have adjustable release systems, giving you a good balance between performance and safety.

Advice on use

Always adapt the mode of your bindings according to the slope: on the way up, the adjustable wedges make the effort easier, while on the way down, lock your bindings for a smooth, controlled glide. Regular maintenance of your bindings is also recommended to ensure they work properly throughout the season.
