Dynafit: The Brand’s Origins and History
Dynafit’s story began in 1950 in Austria, when the company Humanic began producing ski boots. These models would be worn by legendary athletes such as Franz Klammer, winner of the 1976 Olympic downhill race in Innsbruck, and Leonhard Stock, Olympic champion in 1980. Dynafit was registered as an independent brand in 1969.
In 2003, Dynafit joined the South Tyrolean Oberalp Group alongside Salewa, allowing the brand to focus entirely on developing products dedicated to ski touring.

Adopted as the emblem during the brand’s repositioning, the snow leopard featured in the brand’s logo embodies the very essence of DYNAFIT: lightness, speed, and efficiency in mountainous terrain.
Product Development and Innovations at Dynafit
Dynafit’s founding innovation remains the insert binding, invented in 1984 by Fritz Barthel: by attaching metal pins to the toe piece and designing a boot with matching notches, he laid the foundation for modern ski touring. This invention gave rise in 1990 to “Tourlite Tech,” the first boot-binding unit, whose lightness and efficiency revolutionized the sport.
In 2012, Dynafit launched its first summer collection and became an all-season outdoor gear brand, covering everything from trail running to mountaineering. More recently, in 2023, the brand introduced the Lifetime Guarantee, a 10-year product warranty that includes a repair service, embodying its commitment to quality and sustainability.
Products offered by the Dynafit brand
The brand offers a complete range dedicated to ski touring and mountaineering, with technical products designed for mountain performance:
- For skis and bindings, Speck-Sports offers ski touring packs such as the Radical 88 or the Blacklight 95, as well as DNA competition bindings and Crampons (90, 100, and 120 mm) compatible with the brand’s low-tech bindings.
- In terms of boots, iconic models include the TLT, a direct descendant of the Tourlite philosophy, and the DNA Boot competition boot with its 100% carbon cuff and 70° rotation, designed for high-level ski mountaineering.
- In terms of gear, the range also includes backpacks like the Speed 20, designed for quick mountain outings.
Since 2012, the brand has expanded its offerings to the summer season, making it a 360-degree brand specializing in outdoor activities.
Dynafit’s Eco-Responsible Commitment
Sustainability is at the heart of Dynafit’s model, with an approach that combines product longevity and environmental responsibility.
The brand manufactures 100% of its ski bindings and boots in Europe. For textiles, Dynafit prioritizes fabrics certified by bluesign®, the leading label for chemical management, and collaborates with the Fair Wear Foundation to ensure compliance with international labor standards among its Asian textile suppliers. Dynafit is also a member of Cascale (formerly the Sustainable Apparel Coalition), using Higg tools to measure and improve its environmental impact throughout the supply chain.
The brand’s most iconic commitment remains the protection of the snow leopard, an endangered species and Dynafit’s symbol since 2005. Since 2007, the brand has supported the Snow Leopard Trust and has already raised approximately €200,000 in donations, notably through Snow Leopard Day, an international event that converts the vertical meters climbed by the community into donations for the conservation of this feline.
