At the end of the 1940s, Karl Lenhart was working in a company building wooden letters for bakeries and butcher's shops. He was a great ski enthusiast and was never satisfied with the quality of his vintage poles. So he began to make his own ski pole washers and handles. Mass production began in 1960.
Karl Lenhart also had knowledge of the aeronautics industry and knew how to work with aluminium as well as composite, which enabled him to make his own pair, made from these two materials, and to market it in the 1970s under the name LEKI.

The contraction LEKI stands for the name of the owner and the head office: Lenhart in Kircheim.
