The origin of Van Deer H-Power skis
Van Deer Red Bull is the latest ski brand to offer equipment that reflects the fighting spirit and determination of ski racers. Inspired by ski legends such as Marcel Hirscher, Austrian alpine skier and winner of seven major crystal globes, the H-Power embodies the perfect fusion of performance and aesthetics.
These skis are handcrafted in Austria at the former Augment factory in Mittersill. The Van Deer brand makes a point of using top-quality materials, guaranteeing exceptional durability and resistance to the challenges of the most demanding races.
Particular care is given to the finish of the skis: they benefit from excellent factory preparation, so you can go skiing straight out of the box with brand-new skis.
The Van Deer H-Power 22 is equipped with an original Look plate and SPX 12 or 15 bindings. Everything has been meticulously thought out to provide an optimal racing experience.
Performance of the H-Power pair of skis
We tested Van Deer's H-Power model in 175 cm on gun snow sprinkled with fresh snow in the Verbier ski area in Switzerland.
With a 68mm skate, a double titanium plate and a pedigree derived from racing skis, you'd expect a good pair of thigh-warming lead bars that don't forgive any misplacement. Not so! With its 15m radius, it's the perfect compromise between manoeuvrability and high-speed stability.
Technically fairly accessible, with a supple tip, the H-Power is easy to steer at low speeds.
When you move up a gear, the magic happens: the more you accelerate, the more the ski positions itself in the curve without flinching, with demonic precision. Of course, compared with a racing ski, there's less relaunch, but that's not what you're looking for with this type of equipment. The Van Deer Red Bull H-Power allows you to carve superb high-speed curves in the morning when the slopes are perfectly prepared, but it's not too difficult to handle when the slopes are in poor condition or when you're tired.
With its narrow skid and toned shape, off-piste fun is more than limited. It doesn't lift and it's too stiff. This pair of skis isn't made for that.
Priced at €1299 with a Look Spx 12 binding, this is clearly a top-of-the-range ski. Nevertheless, the ski's construction, preparation and performance are well worth the investment.
For those lucky enough to have two pairs of skis, they're the ideal complement to a pair of fats for powder days. The rest of the time, the Van Deer H-Power will give you a smile and be the perfect tool for hitting the slopes.
In conclusion, the H-Power model is the ideal ski for carving aficionados: it's easy to use and offers great performance. It's not a ski for beginners
but it's not exclusive or too physically demanding.
