Designed for ski touring and freeriding in challenging terrain, the Scott PACK PATROL E2 38 KIT NL airbag backpack is intended for unisex skiers and snowboarders who venture into the backcountry and want to combine avalanche safety with ample storage capacity. With a 38-liter capacity, it meets the demands of long days in the mountains. Its Alpride E2 electronic airbag system with supercapacitors makes it an avalanche safety device designed for reliability and practicality in the field.
The Alpride E2 System at the Heart of the Scott PACK PATROL E2 38 KIT NL
The technical core of this pack is based on Alpride E2 technology, an electronic system powered by supercapacitors combined with a turbo radial fan. The deployment is mechanical, ensuring immediate activation without relying on a complex electrical connection. A built-in LCD screen displays the charge level of the AA batteries and supercapacitors in real time, allowing you to check the system’s status before each outing. Recharging can be done directly in the field using two standard AA batteries or via a USB-C port—a welcome flexibility on expeditions. A pressure relief valve completes the system. The pack is TÜV-certified and certified as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment): it helps reduce the risk in the event of an avalanche, though it does not eliminate that risk. The dedicated trigger pocket, located on the left shoulder strap, ensures immediate access to the activation mechanism. Finally, its air travel compatibility—without a cartridge or lithium-ion battery—simplifies travel to your climbing destinations.
A carrying system designed for technical mountain excursions
The bSPINE EVO back system ensures optimal load distribution, reducing fatigue during long ascents on ski tours. The adjustable lumbar belt features a quick-release buckle and a safety buckle for the retractable leg strap—both designed for emergency situations. The adjustable chest strap is equipped with a built-in emergency whistle. The side compression straps allow you to adjust the pack’s volume to suit the day’s needs. The shell is constructed from 100% nylon Cordura, a fabric known for its abrasion resistance in rocky and snowy environments.
Organization and Transport of Mountaineering Gear
The compartment dedicated to avalanche safety equipment holds a shovel and probe in a space separate from the rest of the load, for quick access in case of an emergency. Skis can be carried in a diagonal or A-frame configuration, and a snowboard attachment system is also included. Both the helmet and ice axe or pole attachments are retractable, preventing accidental snags during technical sections. An SOS label printed with emergency instructions is integrated into the pack. The advertised weight for the complete kit is 1,620 g, striking a balance between carrying capacity and lightness for an airbag pack in this category.
