Designed for women engaged in intense activities in cool weather, the Patagonia R1 AIR FULL-ZIP stands out for its hollow-core yarn jacquard fleece construction, which combines lightweight thermal insulation with active breathability. This technical fleece meets the demands of trail running, fast-paced hiking, or rock climbing—activities where heat and moisture management directly determine comfort while on the move.

A technical fabric designed for thermal regulation: the Patagonia R1 AIR FULL-ZIP Women’s Hooded Zip-Up Sweatshirt

At the heart of the R1 AIR FULL-ZIP is a 5.7 oz. jacquard fleece made from 100% recycled polyester with hollow-core yarns. This hollow structure traps a thin layer of air to retain heat, while keeping the weight to a modest 312 g. The fabric’s distinctive zigzag texture promotes airflow between the fibers, accelerating drying and moisture wicking during activity. The cuffs and hem feature the same quick-drying treatment, with a woven binding that maintains shape over time. A HeiQ® Fresh treatment also ensures long-lasting odor control, which is particularly useful during extended outings.

A design tailored for layering

The full-length zipper allows you to quickly adjust ventilation based on the intensity of your activity, without having to remove the garment. The fitted hood is sized to fit under a climbing helmet or the hood of an outer shell, expanding your options depending on the conditions. The seams are offset at the shoulders to prevent pressure points under backpack straps—a design detail you’ll notice from the very first hours of wear. The slim fit keeps the garment close to the body, minimizing bulk under an additional layer.

Storage and Material Features

The R1 AIR FULL-ZIP features a zippered pocket on the left chest and two front zippered pockets with minimal closures—enough to securely hold essentials without weighing down the silhouette. In terms of material commitments, the fabric is bluesign® approved, ensuring strict environmental standards throughout the manufacturing process. The garment is produced in a Fair Trade™-certified factory, which guarantees verified working conditions for the workers involved in its production.

Available in sizes XS through XL and in the colors Birch White and Stingray Mauve, the Patagonia R1 AIR FULL-ZIP Women’s Hooded Sweatshirt is part of the line of summer fleeces and softshells designed for active pursuits in cool conditions.
