The GNU TRE is an all-mountain freestyle snowboard designed for advanced to expert riders looking for a board that performs on all types of terrain, from the park to powder. As Max Warbington’s signature model, it features an asymmetrical geometry designed to align with the body’s natural biomechanics and provide a more intuitive ride in any situation. Its versatility makes it a serious tool for those who don’t want to choose between precision carving, freestyle tricks, and off-piste float. The GNU TRE is aimed at snowboarders who have already mastered the technical basics and want to take their riding to the next level.

Asymmetric geometry and twin shape: a board centered on your body

The GNU TRE features an Asymmetric Twin shape, meaning it has a symmetrical profile along its length but asymmetrical lateral geometry. This approach, dubbed “Asym Awesome” by the manufacturer, takes into account the fact that the heel and toe sides of the foot respond differently to physical stress. The result is a board that engages and disengages its edges more naturally, reducing the effort required to initiate a turn. There is zero setback, which places the stance at the exact center of the board: an ideal setup for freestyle and switch riding, where the board must respond identically in both directions.

C2x Profile: Rocker and Camber for Versatility

The C2x Hybrid Rocker/Camber profile combines a pronounced rocker in the center with camber zones at the tips, underfoot. This “Tip & Tail” profile offers two complementary advantages: the central rocker provides forgiveness, makes it easier to initiate turns, and improves float in deep snow, while the camber zones generate pop and maintain solid grip on hard snow. For an expert rider who enjoys both the park and light freeriding, this hybrid profile avoids the extreme compromises of a pure camber or full rocker design.

Construction and Materials: Mastered Lightweight Design and Responsiveness

The GNU TRE’s construction is based on several technical elements that directly define its performance on the snow:

• G-Lite 2 Core (FSC-certified Aspen/Paulownia): The combination of these two wood species offers a good balance between lightness and responsiveness, resulting in a lively board without being heavy.
• Tri-Axial / Bi-Axial Fiberglass Matrix Laminates: The combination of differently oriented fibers modulates torsion and longitudinal stiffness depending on the area, contributing to the precision of the asymmetrical shape.
• Magne-Traction® Serrated Edges (7 serrations): The serrated edges increase the number of contact points with the snow, improving grip on ice and in variable conditions.
• Eco-Sublimated Sintered Base: a sintered base that absorbs wax well and maintains efficient glide over time.
• Sidewall Construction: The high-density UHMW polyethylene sidewall protects the board during impacts and helps transfer pressure to the edges.

The board is handcrafted at the Mervin MFG eco-factory in Washington State using a production process certified as zero hazardous waste.

Setup and Binding Compatibility

The GNU TRE features a 2x4 insert system, compatible with all standard disc bindings that use this format. This system allows for fine-tuning of stance position and angle according to your riding preferences.

Available in 157 cm, the GNU TRE is designed for expert riders looking for an all-mountain freestyle board capable of adapting to a variety of conditions, from well-groomed parks to off-piste runs. The combination of the asymmetrical shape, the C2x profile, and Magne-Traction® technology makes it a solid choice for those who ride mixed terrain and want a board that responds precisely to their intentions, whether riding frontside or switch.
