The body of The North Face Chakal is woven from DryVent™ 2L, a twill fabric made from 94% recycled polyester and 6% spandex. This composition makes the jacket completely waterproof, enhanced by fully taped seams that prevent any water from seeping in at the seams. The PFC-free durable water-repellent (DWR) finish treats the outer surface so that water beads up and runs off immediately, without saturating the fabric. The membrane’s inherent breathability, meanwhile, allows water vapor produced by physical exertion to escape, reducing the feeling of stuffiness during sustained descents. The snow skirt with hook-and-loop elastic and jacket-to-pants integration system completes this all-around waterproofing by preventing snow from seeping in from the bottom.

The Chakal’s insulation is based on Heatseeker™ Advanced technology, a synthetic insulation made from 80% post-consumer recycled polyester. The body lining, also made of 100% recycled polyester, helps manage internal heat. To prevent overheating during intense activity, underarm vents allow for active temperature regulation by simply opening the dedicated zippers.
