Designed for women who enjoy snow sports, hiking, or any activity in cold conditions, this mid-weight Icebreaker base layer features pure merino wool to combine natural temperature regulation with comfort against the skin. With a weight of 260 g/m², it fits perfectly into a winter layering system—between your skin and a mid-layer—without feeling stiff or bulky. Its slim fit and meticulous construction make it a technical garment that’s just as comfortable in the mountains as it is for everyday wear.

The Icebreaker M 260 Oasis Vrtx LS Crewe AlpGeo Base Layer: Natural Materials for Winter Performance

Made from 100% merino wool, this long-sleeve top harnesses the fiber’s inherent properties: regulating body temperature based on activity level and outdoor conditions, wicking moisture away from the skin, and natural odor resistance. These qualities remain effective even after several days of wear, which is a real advantage during extended self-supported outings or lightweight travel. The wool used is ZQ Merino certified, a certification that guarantees mulesing-free production and high standards of animal welfare. No plastic or petroleum-based synthetic microfibers are used in the fabric’s composition, and merino fiber is naturally renewable, recyclable, and biodegradable under certain conditions.

A design crafted to minimize irritation during movement

Long-term comfort depends largely on the construction details. Flatlock seams reduce friction against the skin, while the seams at the shoulders and sides are offset to avoid pressure points in areas most stressed by backpack straps or repetitive movements. Gussets under the arms round out the design by providing increased range of motion without restricting movement during intense exertion, such as during ski touring or winter trail running. The slim fit keeps the garment close to the body for effective thermal management while making it easy to layer with other clothing.

Care and Durability

Merino wool requires a few precautions to preserve its properties over time. Wash in the machine on a cold, delicate cycle without fabric softener or bleach, and dry flat in the shade rather than in the dryer. These simple steps help preserve the fabric’s integrity and technical performance over the long term.
