Designed for women who ski, go winter hiking, or engage in any activity in cold conditions, these Icebreaker thermal leggings are made entirely of merino wool to provide effective warmth without the use of synthetic materials. Their high-waisted cut and built-in gusset make them a technical base layer designed to stay in place and move with you, even during prolonged exertion.

The W M 260 VER HRLEG CHI: a winter base layer made of 100% merino wool

Knitted from 100% merino wool (excluding the waistband), these leggings fall into the mid-weight base layer category—a balance suited for cold days without overheating during active phases. Merino wool has a natural ability to regulate body temperature based on activity level: it retains heat at rest and wicks moisture away from the skin during periods of increased intensity, promoting evaporation. This fiber also naturally manages odors without any added chemical treatments, allowing you to wear them for several consecutive days while backpacking or on a ski trip.

Comfort designed for mountain activities

The high waist provides excellent abdominal support under a ski jacket or pants, without the waistband riding up or losing its shape during exertion. The integrated gusset in the crotch improves freedom of movement during repeated bending motions, whether you’re edging on skis or hiking over varied terrain. Flat seams minimize friction against the skin—a particularly sensitive issue during prolonged wear under form-fitting technical clothing.

A Naturally Sustainable Material

The merino wool used is a naturally renewable, recyclable, and biodegradable fiber under certain conditions. It contains no plastic microfibers or petroleum-based derivatives, which sets it apart from the synthetic materials commonly used in thermal underwear. For a size Small, the leggings weigh 250 g, confirming their role as a lightweight mid-layer that easily integrates into a winter layering system.
