A telescoping pole designed for ski touring and backcountry skiing
The Black Crows DUOS FREEBIRD is a two-piece telescoping ski touring pole designed for skiers who venture off-piste and into the mountains. Its construction combines an upper tube made of 7075-T6 aluminum alloy with a lower tube made of composite material, providing a good balance between stiffness and lightness for backcountry excursions. Weighing 245 g per pole, it remains easy to handle on long ascents as well as on technical descents.
Grip designed for traverses and direction changes
The DUOS FREEBIRD’s EVA foam grip stands out for its extra-long length of 38 cm, a feature that’s particularly useful for ski touring. This extended grip allows you to grip the pole lower without adjusting the height during steep traverses or when switching feet on asymmetrical slopes, significantly improving control and fluidity of movement. The ergonomic wrist strap completes the package, ensuring a secure grip on the wrist during challenging sections.
Telescoping Construction and Secure Adjustment
The Power Lock 3.0 system locks the length within an adjustment range of 110 to 140 cm, covering most body types and allowing for quick height adjustments between ascents and descents. The 18-mm upper shaft and 16-mm lower shaft ensure consistent power transfer with every push. The 100 cm folded length makes it easy to carry when the pole isn’t in use, especially during portage sections. The reinforced anodized aluminum top cap protects the entire mechanism from impacts encountered during mountain use.
Versatility on the trail: powder and backcountry
The DUOS FREEBIRD is equipped with a flexible basket measuring 90 mm in diameter, sized to provide reliable support in fresh snow and powder. The tungsten carbide tip ensures lasting grip on hard surfaces, ice, or packed snow. The pole is available in one size with an extended adjustment range, making it suitable for unisex use without compromising the precision of the support.
For skiers who alternate between mountain touring and backcountry outings, the Black Crows DUOS FREEBIRD combines all the essential features: quick adjustability, a long grip for steep slopes, and a basket designed for powder. A solid choice for those seeking a reliable and versatile ski pole for varied terrain.
