Test of the Black Diamond Apollo lantern

During our TREK@SLEEP weekend of bivouac gear testing, we had the opportunity to try out Black Diamond's Apollo lantern. In addition to its stunning looks, this lantern has more than one trick up its sleeve.

A versatile, high-performance, practical lantern

Lighting:

It features a power button that also acts as an intensity control. The Black Diamond Apollo delivers 250 Lumens, enough light for a large table, for example. The combination of QuadPOwer LEDs and frosted plastic means that the light is strong, but you can look straight at it without being dazzled.

Hanging points:

The Apollo's original shape and three rubber-tipped feet enable it to be positioned comfortably on a wide variety of surfaces. The two asymmetrical hooks on the top of the lamp are really useful for hanging and unhooking it easily.

Power supply:

The Black Diamond Apollo lantern is powered by an internal 2600 mA rechargeable battery with a micro usb cable, and also thanks to a compartment for 3 AA back-up batteries. It also features two sets of blue charge indicators, one for the replaceable batteries and the other for the rechargeable battery. At maximum brightness, the lantern runs for 6 hours on the internal battery, then automatically switches to AA mode and runs for a further 18 hours. Using it mainly for solo use, at low intensity, autonomy is almost two days, which should be enough for over a week of evening and night use without recharging.

The icing on the cake:

A USB port lets you plug in your electronic equipment to recharge it using the internal battery. Handy for emergency recharging.

Technical features :

- QuadPower LED with 250 lumens (on max. setting) encased in a luminous globe offering powerful, glare-free light
- Runs on internal rechargeable lithium ion battery (2600 milliamp-hour capacity) or 3 AA batteries
- Phone charging time :
- USB port for recharging electronic devices (cable included)
- Status indicator for both alkaline and internal rechargeable batteries
- Flashing mode and dimmer function for modulating intensity
- Double folding suspension ring and folding feet for multiple lighting options

This Black Diamond lantern is unique. Its features are innovative, but not overly complicated. It's compact, durable, reliable and easy to use. At €60, it's an investment that can quickly become one of your outdoor essentials.
