For 2019, the manufacturer revisits its Kestrel and Kyte bags, but releases a more affordable range: the Renn (women's) and Rook complete the range of long-distance hiking bags. Approximately €50 more affordable than their predecessors, the Rook and Renn come in two sizes: 50L and 65L.
What's the difference with the higher-end bags? These bags retain the same design (for example, the Airspeed backs also found on the Levity and Exos), the same materials (main fabric in 600D polyester) and the same comfort, but they are less accessorized. The design is more minimalist. Weight is of course also greater than on the Levity and Exos, while remaining very reasonable (1.56Kg to 1.6Kg depending on bedding).
Main features:
- AirSpeed stretched back to considerably reduce back perspiration. This design allows the body to follow the shape of the waistband and lumbar section of the backpack, for enhanced comfort and even more stable, assisted load-carrying.
- Adjusting the height of the shoulder straps is extremely intuitive, thanks to the innovative vertical adjustment system on rails. The Rook and Renn can be adjusted quickly and easily to suit you perfectly. To match a wider range of back lengths, these bags are equipped with load-balancing straps on the shoulder straps to ensure comfort in any position. A wide, ultra-padded waist belt provides a pleasant feel on the hips and assists in carrying heavier loads.
- The Osprey Rook and Renn feature all the essentials for multi-day touring; generous volume with access through the top flap and bottom sleeping bag compartment. An internal divider provides a separate lower compartment and can be removed when not in use. Numerous compression straps ensure the backpack's stability without hindering access to the mesh water bottle pockets. Two pockets on the waistband and a large pocket on the top flap with a key-ring provide quick access to small items.
The Osprey Rook and Renn are compatible with Osprey's Daylite backpacks. This means you can attach the smaller bag to the larger one for extra volume, and another optional bag for outings lasting a few hours while leaving your larger backpack under the tent.
