Skating skis are generally shorter than classic skis (which are longer). The ideal size depends on the skier's morphology, power and sliding style. As a general rule, however, the ski should be 15 cm taller than the skier.

There are 2 types of classic cross-country skis: skis with backstop and wax skis
Backstop cross-country skis
Classic cross-country skis with backstop are skis for everyone. Easy to use, they will suit all levels of skiers who are not looking for performance. Ideal for beginners, this type of ski allows you to get on and off with ease. The major advantage of this system is that it doesn't require any special maintenance and, above all, it doesn't require any waxing.
Waxing cross-country skis
Classic 'waxable' cross-country skis are designed for skiers who already have some experience of classic skiing. Requiring a minimum of technique and knowledge of the snow to find the right wax, this type of ski offers optimum glide for all skiers who want to enjoy themselves while aiming for performance.
What size should I choose?
The ideal size depends on the skier's morphology, power and style of skiing. As a general rule, however, the ski should be 20 cm taller than the skier.
If you are between two sizes, a longer ski will give you better glide, but will be a little less manoeuvrable. For the first year, it's best not to choose skis that are too big.
