Stöckli MONTERO AX Ski Set + STRIVE-13D Bindings

The Stöckli MONTERO AX is an all-mountain ski designed for intermediate to expert skiers looking for versatile performance—equally at home on groomed runs, in fresh snow, or in a variety of conditions. With a waist width of 80 mm, it occupies a central position in the all-mountain spectrum, offering both grip on hard snow and sufficient float off-piste. This bundle pairs the MONTERO AX with STRIVE-13D bindings, creating a cohesive and ready-to-ride package. The ski’s appeal lies in the balance between agility in tight turns and stability at high speeds—two qualities made possible by its construction.

Performance and Handling: A lightweight all-mountain ski designed for both on-piste and off-piste use

The Stöckli MONTERO AX is designed for advanced or expert skiers who enjoy alpine skiing on a variety of terrains, from carving on groomed runs to venturing into fresh powder at the edge of the ski area. Its all-mountain design gives it great adaptability: it doesn’t specialize in a single discipline but aims to effectively cover the entire terrain of a resort. The intended feel is that of a playful and precise ski, capable of changing pace without excessive effort, while remaining reassuring at high speeds thanks to its structural stiffness. This profile makes it an ideal companion for versatile days when snow conditions change throughout the descent.

Dimensions and radius: geometry designed for dynamic turns

The dimensions of the MONTERO AX in size 173 cm are 123 mm at the tip, 80 mm at the waist, and 112 mm at the tail. This profile, which is slightly flared at the tip and tail, makes it easier to initiate turns and exit them smoothly. The 15.5-meter radius for the 173 cm size is suited for medium-radius turns—neither too short to remain stable at high speeds nor too long to sacrifice maneuverability on varied terrain. This radius is well-suited for demanding all-mountain riding, where versatility takes precedence over specialization.

Profile and grip: classic camber combined with a double rocker

The ski features a hybrid profile combining classic camber underfoot with a double rocker at the tip and tail. The central camber ensures solid contact with the snow in the contact zone—an essential condition for precise grip on hard snow and direct power transfer. The rocker at the tip makes it easier to initiate turns and reduces the tendency to get stuck in fresh snow, while the rocker at the tail allows for a smoother exit from turns and makes the ski more playful. This balance between camber and rocker is characteristic of an all-mountain design geared toward on-piste performance without sacrificing off-piste versatility.

Construction: wood core and Titanal reinforcement for stability and precision

The construction of the Stöckli MONTERO AX is based on several technical elements whose benefits are immediately noticeable on the slopes. Here are the key components of this design:

• Poplar/Beech Wood Core: a combination of two wood species with complementary properties, offering lightness and responsiveness for a lively response to pressure.
• Sandwich System with Titanal: The double layer of Titanal surrounding the core provides high torsional stiffness, ensuring precision in high-speed turns.
• Tip and Tail Flex: Controlling the flex at the tip and tail refines the ski’s behavior when initiating and exiting turns, making the ski more forgiving and progressive.
• Light Core: The lighter core contributes to a low overall weight, which enhances maneuverability and reduces fatigue at the end of the day.

The Stöckli MONTERO AX + STRIVE-13D Bindings package is available in lengths of 173 and 178 cm, two lengths that accommodate skiers ranging from advanced to expert. If you ski on varied terrain and are looking for an all-mountain ski that delivers on its promises both on the groomed slopes and in mixed conditions, this bundle offers a technically sound solution that’s ready to use right from your first run.
