Alpine ski size guide

How to choose the right size of alpine skis?

Here are a few tips to help you choose the right alpine skis for you.

1) Assess your ability

Before buying your skis, it's essential to define your technical level. A model adapted to your level will give you maximum pleasure and comfort!

- Beginner: for you, skiing is brand new! You alternate skidding and snowploughing. You'll ski at low speed on green or blue runs.
- Intermediate: turns and parallel skis, you'll start to feel comfortable on red runs.
- Confirmed: whatever the color, you'll be able to ski every run, but of course there's always room for improvement.
- Expert: skiing is your domain. Your technique enables you to experience intense sensations on and off the slopes, you master all types of terrain and know all the techniques involved in making turns.

2) Determine your riding style

To find the model best suited to your needs and desires, you need to define the terrain in which you want to ride.

- Piste: you're a piste enthusiast, and like to enjoy the whole ski area.
- All Mountain: you love the slopes, but are open to discovering what's going on next door, when conditions allow! Opt for a versatile ski that will enable you to be at ease on all types of snow.
- Freeride: you spend most of your time off the slopes in search of powder. Your goal: to make your own tracks. Choose a long ski with a wide runner for extra lift in fresh snow.
- Freestyle: kickers, rails and half-pipes, the snowpark holds no secrets for you. Choose a short ski with double tips to improve pop and make your jumps easier.

3) Choose your ski size

The size of your skis depends not only on your height, but also on your level of skiing. Shorter skis give better maneuverability, while longer skis offer greater stability and more lift. A beginner skier or freestyle enthusiast will opt for nose-high skis, while an experienced skier, speed freak or freerider will prefer longer skis.
