Climbing clothing: comfort, freedom of movement and performance

Climbing clothing is essential to maximize your comfort and performance in this demanding sport. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced climber, it's crucial to choose the right clothing to cope with the physical challenges and varied weather conditions encountered on the mountain or in the climbing gym.

What kind of climbing clothing?

Climbing clothing must be light, resistant and flexible. Here are the main types of clothing you'll need for safe climbing:

  • Climbing pants: Choose pants made from stretchy materials that allow you to move freely and move loosely. Models with knee and seat reinforcements are recommended for extra durability when climbing on rock.

  • Climbing shorts: In warm weather, climbing shorts are an excellent alternative. Look for lightweight, breathable models that wick away perspiration to keep you dry.

  • T-shirts and tank tops: Choose garments made from technical materials such as polyester or merino wool, which ensure good moisture wicking and optimum freedom of movement.

  • Climbing jackets: When outdoors, a lightweight, windproof jacket is often needed to protect you from the elements. Softshell jackets are ideal for climbing because of their breathability and abrasion resistance.

Why choose specific clothing for climbing?

Climbing clothing is specially designed to meet the demands of the sport. They are made from wear-resistant materials and allow great freedom of movement when performing technical gestures such as hooking or spreading. What's more, technical clothing helps regulate body temperature, wicks away perspiration and dries quickly, which is crucial during intense physical exertion.

Our tips for choosing the right climbing clothing

  • Adapt your clothing to your activity: for indoor climbing, opt for lightweight, breathable clothing. In the mountains, opt for extra layers to cope with temperature variations.

  • Ensure comfort and freedom of movement: Test clothing before you buy, to make sure it doesn't restrict your movements.

  • Take weather conditions into account: for outdoor climbing, always pack a protective jacket and moisture-wicking clothing.
