Fischer: The Brand’s Origins and History
Founded in 1924 by Josef Fischer in Ried im Innkreis, Austria, the company grew from humble beginnings to become a global leader in ski technology and manufacturing. The company started out making wooden sleds before quickly moving into the production of alpine skis.
To this day, Fischer remains the last of the major Austrian ski brands still owned by its founders, through its family foundation. In 2020, the brand had 30% of its skis manufactured in Ried, Austria, and 70% in Mukachevo, Ukraine, in the Carpathian region.
The 2024/2025 season marks a historic milestone: Fischer becomes the only brand to have won world championship titles and overall World Cup standings in all major skiing disciplines: from alpine skiing to cross-country skiing, biathlon, and ski jumping.
Product Development and Innovations at Fischer
Innovation plays a central role in the development of Fischer equipment. In Nordic skiing, Air Core Carbon technology makes skis lighter thanks to a core structure incorporating a very high proportion of air, thereby improving lightness and maneuverability.
In alpine skiing, Fischer notably uses the Cold Base Bonding process, a cold-bonding technique for the base designed to optimize wax absorption and ensure long-lasting glide performance.
For its line of high-performance downhill skis, the brand has also developed Noize Control™ technology, integrated notably into the RC4 models, to reduce vibrations. The combination of a specific structure, a wood core, and titanium reinforcements helps improve stability, precision in turns, and smooth gliding.
In ski touring, the Travers boot also exemplifies this innovative approach: it was developed in collaboration with Fischer Touring and Freeride athletes to optimize the balance between lightness, climbing efficiency, and downhill performance.

Fischer’s Commitment to Sustainability
Fischer approaches sustainability as an ongoing project. The brand focuses its efforts both at the corporate level and on a product-by-product basis. In production, the emphasis is on quality and durability as the primary drivers for reducing environmental impact—a product that lasts longer is, by nature, more sustainable.
For the 2024/2025 season, Fischer launched THE CURV GT 85 REDEFINE, designed with a significantly reduced carbon footprint.
The brand is also collaborating withthe Montan University of Leoben, suppliers, recyclers, and other players in the winter sports industry as part of the international WINTRUST project. Fischer ultimately aims to develop a more circular and sustainable supply chain.
