Discover the Helly Hansen® brand

Helly Hansen is a Norwegian brand founded in 1877 in Moss, Norway, by Captain Helly Juell Hansen and his wife Maren Margarethe. Faced with extreme conditions at sea, the couple began making workwear from thick linen canvas, coated with linseed oil to make it waterproof—a simple yet revolutionary process that earned them an award as early as 1878 at the Paris World’s Fair.

Did you know?

Helly Hansen sums up its DNA in a single phrase: "Born by the sea. Raised by the mountains." A motto that faithfully captures the evolution of a brand that has journeyed from the Nordic seas to the highest Alpine peaks over a century and a half of history.

Product Development and Innovations at Helly Hansen®

One of the brand’s most significant innovations is the development of Fiberpile in partnership with Norwegian Fiber Pile Inc. This is the predecessor of modern fleece, which retained its thermal properties even when wet, and remains in production today under the name ProPile.

In 2008, the Odin collection was launched as the ultimate embodiment of the Three-Layer System ™. In 2012, H2 Flow™ technology debuted with an active airflow ventilation system, recognized by the Norwegian Design Council.

Products offered by the Helly Hansen® brand

Helly Hansen offers a complete range of technical apparel for skiers, mountaineers, sailors, and outdoor enthusiasts: jackets, pants, thermal underwear, footwear, and accessories to withstand rain, snow, and wind.

The product range available at Speck-Sports is organized into several categories: alpine skiing and freeride (insulated jackets, ski pants, suits), mountaineering (hardshells, softshells, technical base layers), and lifestyle collections inspired by Scandinavian streetwear.

Helly Hansen®’s Commitment to Sustainability

Helly Hansen is committed to respecting, preserving, and promoting ethical values, human rights, and the environment by adopting a holistic and scientific approach in all its decisions.

The flagship innovation of this commitment is LIFA Infinity Pro™ technology: a waterproof and breathable membrane entirely free of added chemical treatments, developed by heating and stretching the fibers to achieve water repellency without resorting to fluorinated DWRs, which the textile industry is seeking to phase out.

The brand also uses ZQ-certified merino wool and develops garments made from a single material (one material per garment) to facilitate their recycling at the end of their life cycle.
