Designed for women engaging in low-intensity activities in cold weather, the Icebreaker M 400 RealFleece Descender LS Z midlayer combines the natural warmth of brushed merino wool with a Regular Fit designed to work well in a layering system or worn on its own. Its RealFleece™ fabric, made from 60% merino wool and 40% TENCEL™ Lyocell, feels soft against the skin while maintaining a balance between warmth and lightness. A versatile piece, equally at home in the mountains as it is for everyday wear.
The merino wool brushing process that defines RealFleece™ creates a fluffy surface that traps warm air without adding bulk to the garment. With a warmth rating of 400 and a merino fiber fineness of 20.9 µ, this midlayer meets the demands of winter days when activity levels remain moderate. The pocket lining is made of 100% merino wool, ensuring thermal continuity down to the finest details. The extended hem provides extra coverage around the lower back, an area particularly exposed during breaks or descents.
Flatlock seams and offset shoulder seams reduce friction points—a noticeable benefit when wearing a backpack or under a protective shell. Gussets under the arms preserve complete freedom of movement without restricting wide arm movements. The set-in sleeves naturally follow the contours of the arm, while the thumb loops keep the sleeves in place and prevent them from riding up unexpectedly. The zippered chin guard, combined with the inner storm flap, protects the skin from chafing caused by the zipper when you start to sweat or when adjusting the fit during a run.
The Icebreaker M 400 RealFleece Descender LS Z features two secure, hidden alpine pockets on the main side, ideal for discreetly storing documents or valuables, as well as two hand pockets on the sides. This jacket meets the practical needs of hiking or winter outings, where quick access to and the security of personal belongings are also important. The fitted cuffs and hem with elastic trim complete the design by minimizing cold air ingress.
Weighing 590 g in size Medium and measuring 71.5 cm in back length, this garment should be machine-washed in cold water, without fabric softener or tumble drying. It should be dried in the shade, and cold ironing is possible if necessary. Here are the technical details not covered in the text:
