Developed in collaboration with Bruno Compagnet and mountain guides in Chamonix, this 27-liter pack combines durability and lightness in a compact design meant to hug the back.
The Black Crows DORSA 27 BACKPACK: a technical design for ski touring
The outer shell is made of 500D and 5000D Cordura, two complementary weights that distribute abrasion resistance where it’s needed most, without unnecessarily adding weight to the pack. The pack weighs 1,300 g and measures 65 x 28.5 x 17 cm, placing it in a versatile category suitable for both strenuous ascents and challenging descents. The thermoformed back panel keeps the load stable against the back and contributes to the pack’s structural integrity, even when packed with safety gear.
Access and Organization: Content Management Designed for the Mountains
The roll-top main opening ensures waterproof protection suitable for winter conditions while offering adjustable volume to suit the day’s needs. A zippered front access panel and a zipper on the back panel allow for quick access to the contents without taking the pack off. Dedicated internal pockets for the shovel, probe, and hydration bladder keep safety gear organized separately, while the front pocket provides a second quick access point to this equipment. A small top pocket protects sunglasses or goggles.
Carrying and Transporting Snow Sports Gear
The dual-density foam shoulder straps distribute pressure across the shoulders during extended ascents. The removable hip belt, equipped with a metal buckle, and the chest strap complete the carrying system to stabilize the load on rough terrain. For carrying winter sports gear, the pack offers two configurations: a side-carry system for skis and a diagonal carry system, plus two ice axe loops for outings requiring technical climbing gear.
