SPX 13 GW Look Bindings

The LOOK SPX 13 GW is an alpine ski binding designed for versatile and dedicated skiers who want to explore the entire mountain with confidence. With a DIN range of 4 to 13, it caters to a wide range of skiers, from intermediate to advanced, who are looking for reliable release and efficient power transfer. Its compatibility with GripWalk soles makes it particularly well-suited for resort walking boots, without compromising downhill performance. Power, control, and release safety are the three pillars of its design.

Release and Safety: A Design Built for Reliability

The SPX 13 GW is based on a combination of two complementary elements: a Full Action toe piece and an SPX heel piece. The Full Action toe piece ensures precise foot retention while allowing for 180° multidirectional release, meaning the binding reacts to lateral, vertical, and combined forces, thereby reducing the risk of injury in a variety of fall scenarios. The SPX heel piece, with its 27 mm elastic travel, helps absorb shocks and reduce unintended releases—that is, unwanted openings during brief, intense stresses such as vibrations on hard snow.

Long Elastic Travel technology reinforces this design philosophy by providing an expanded absorption range before the binding actually releases, which improves ski retention during compression and landing phases. The front stop’s elastic travel reaches 45 mm, a figure that reflects significant shock-absorption capacity before the binding releases. The DIN range of 4–13 accommodates a variety of skier profiles: precise adjustment must be performed by a certified professional based on the skier’s weight, height, skill level, and sole length.

Base Compatibility: Alpine and GripWalk Combined

The SPX 13 GW supports two distinct sole standards, giving it real-world versatility. It is compatible with ISO 5355 A (Alpine) soles—the traditional standard for alpine ski boots with rigid, flat soles—as well as with ISO 23223 A GripWalk soles, whose lugged and slightly curved sole makes walking in the resort easier. This dual compatibility allows the binding to be used with most current alpine ski boots without any additional modifications. It is essential to check the sole standard of your boots before installation: an incompatible sole poses a real safety risk.

As for the brake, the SPX 13 GW is available in three widths: 90 mm, 100 mm, and 110 mm. The brake width must match the waist width of the ski; the brake should extend slightly beyond each side to ensure the ski stops effectively if the binding releases. This integrated ski brake is designed to accommodate a wide range of skis, from narrow piste models to medium-width all-mountain skis.

Construction and Performance on Snow

The pair weighs 1,110 g, which is consistent with its performance level and built-in technologies. The 19.5 mm mounting height between the base and the ski directly influences the feel during turns: a controlled height promotes direct power transfer between the foot and the ski. Rolling Control technology contributes to this power transfer by optimizing weight transfer during edge-angling phases, resulting in a more precise response when carving or on varied terrain.

The SPX 13 GW is designed for intermediate to advanced skiers who ski across the entire alpine terrain and want a binding that combines safety with quick release, GripWalk compatibility, and dynamic performance. Its extended DIN range, multidirectional release, and shock-absorption technologies make it a logical choice for those who alternate between technical descents and resort travel while wearing GripWalk boots.
