Protection and Construction of the Petzl BOREO RED Helmet

The ABS shell provides the first level of impact resistance. It is complemented by a liner combining EPP and EPS, two materials with complementary shock-absorbing properties. The helmet meets the requirements of Petzl’s TOP AND SIDE PROTECTION certification, which attests to enhanced protection against side, front, and rear impacts—beyond just vertical impacts. The helmet is certified to CE EN 12492, UIAA, and UKCA standards—three recognized benchmarks in mountaineering and rock climbing. These certifications indicate that the product reduces the risks associated with impacts, though they do not guarantee absolute protection.

A Fit Designed for the Terrain

The adjustment system features polyester side straps and a fully adjustable chin strap, allowing the fit to be tailored to each wearer’s head shape. The inner headband folds directly into the shell, simplifying storage in a backpack without adding bulk. At the front, two clips and an elastic strap at the back allow you to attach a headlamp—a feature that’s particularly useful during outings in winter conditions or underground.

Ventilation and Everyday Comfort

The large ventilation holes distributed across the shell promote airflow around the head, limiting heat buildup during prolonged exertion. Weighing 300 g in size S/M and 330 g in size M/L, the BOREO RED remains within reasonable weight limits for a hybrid-construction helmet, without sacrificing the durability of the ABS shell. These features make it an ideal choice for long rides where comfort is just as important as durability.
