The POC Fornix MIPS Ski Helmet: Versatility and Protection on Every Slope
Designed to meet the demands of both alpine skiing and snowboarding, the POC Fornix MIPS stands out as a versatile helmet designed for riders who switch between different environments: groomed runs, all-mountain, and freeride outings. Its construction combines lightness with structural strength, weighing approximately 500 grams in size M-L, for a helmet that remains unobtrusive even during extended use. The integrated MIPS technology places this model in a category of helmets designed to reduce rotational forces during an impact—a factor that is becoming increasingly important when choosing ski gear. The POC Fornix MIPS ski helmet is designed for both men and women, featuring a unisex design available in three size ranges.
Construction and Protection: A Design Engineered for Oblique Impacts
The Fornix MIPS’s polycarbonate shell rests on an EPS liner designed to absorb energy during a direct impact. What this model adds to this proven foundation is, first and foremost, the MIPS Brain Protection System: a low-friction inner layer that allows for slight relative slippage between the head and the helmet during an oblique impact, thereby reducing the rotational forces transmitted to the brain. In addition, aramid fiber reinforcements—known as Aramid Bridges technology—enhance the helmet’s structural strength and help protect against penetration. The helmet meets the EN 1077 Class B and ASTM 2040 standards, two recognized benchmarks in winter sports equipment.
Comfort and Fit: A Precise Adaptation to Head Shape
The POC Fornix MIPS ski helmet features a 360° adjustment system, allowing for even, consistent fit around the head without localized pressure points. The chin strap is highly adjustable to accommodate different face shapes. The soft ear pads are both flexible and removable, allowing you to adjust the level of thermal insulation based on conditions or personal preferences. This helmet is designed to be worn with or without these ear pads, which broadens its range of seasonal and climatic use.
Ventilation and Goggle Compatibility: Active Thermal Management
The Fornix MIPS’s ventilation is adjustable, with vents specifically positioned to promote airflow near the ski goggles. This feature helps minimize fogging on the goggles—a practical benefit that improves visibility in variable conditions. A fixed goggle retention clip is integrated into the back of the helmet, ensuring the goggles stay secure even during technical sections or falls. All of these features make the POC Fornix MIPS a helmet well-suited for all-mountain and freeride adventures, where conditions can change rapidly and where the versatility of your gear makes all the difference day in and day out.
