Vertigo Alpes: the brand’s origins and history
Vertigo Alpes is a brand founded by the Amateis Group, a family-owned business established in 1991 in the French Alps, near Annecy. Conceived in France in the mountains of Haute-Savoie, Vertigo Alpes was built around the outdoor segment and has evolved with changing trends, expanding well beyond the Alpine ranges to reach customers throughout France.
The brand operates alongside other Amateis Group brands such as Aulp, Degre 7, and Duvillard.
Did you know?
Amateis, the parent company of Vertigo Alpes, is a true family business. Founded by Philippe Simond in 1991 in Rumilly, the company is now run by his two children: Nicolas, CEO, and Lisa, sales manager. Committed to preserving France’s outdoor heritage, the group has also acquired the licenses for the historic brands Degré 7 and Duvillard, in order, in the words of Nicolas Simond, to “keep this French heritage in our mountains and prevent it from falling into the hands of large corporations on the other side of the world.”
Products offered by the Vertigo Alpes brand
As a footwear specialist, Vertigo Alpes offers a range designed to meet the needs of outdoor enthusiasts.
- When it comes to hiking and trekking boots, the brand offers models for the whole family: the Everest and Amire for men, the Atira, Chana, and Viana for women, and the Marok for kids.
- For après-ski, there are the Bounti and Busi boots for men, and the Bicky snow boots for women.
The range is rounded out with sportswear ankle boots and boots for more urban use, such as the Uritz and Wiyau models for men, or the Werli for women.
Positioned in the entry-level and mid-range segments, Vertigo Alpes makes mountain gear accessible to everyone.
The eco-friendly commitment of Amateis and Vertigo Alpes
Drawing inspiration from the Alpine nature that has surrounded it since its founding, Amateis is committed to combining outdoor sports with respect for the environment. The Savoy-based company works to develop increasingly ethical and eco-designed lines, an approach shared by all of its brands, including Vertigo Alpes.
Within the group, this vision is being put into practice: the Aulp brand, a sister brand to Vertigo Alpes, is working to incorporate recycled, organic, or natural materials into its collections, with the stated goal of achieving 50% low-environmental-impact products. Models made from recycled polyester, derived from plastic bottles, have already been introduced into its lines. The Degré 7 brand, also under the Amateis umbrella, has been producing technical apparel from recycled materials since joining the group in 2022.
For Vertigo Alpes, this commitment from the parent company is reflected in a shared desire to offer sustainable products, designed to last and tailored to the needs of environmentally conscious mountain enthusiasts.
