Leatherman is an American brand from Oregon, created by Tim Leatherman.
Tim Leatherman came up with the idea of creating a multi-purpose tool during a business trip to Europe in 1975. It was because his old car kept breaking down that Tim Leatherman realized he needed a multi-purpose tool. He always carried a Swiss Army knife with him, which allowed him to repair his car effectively, but the problem was that his Swiss Army knife didn't have pliers. So, once he returned from his trip to Europe, Tim Leatherman thought about this problem and decided to make his own multi-purpose tool with pliers.
He made sketches and diagrams, then set about manufacturing this tool, and that is how the Leatherman brand was born.
Today, the Leatherman brand offers a wide range of multi-purpose tools, all of which feature pliers surrounded by accessories, similar to a Swiss Army knife.
