Climbing ropes: safety and performance for all climbers
Whether you're a novice climber or a seasoned expert, climbing ropes are an essential part of your equipment, guaranteeing your safety during your ascents. Our selection of climbing ropes includes models suitable for all types of climbing, from sport climbing on cliffs to mountaineering in the high mountains. Discover our dynamic, semi-static and static ropes, designed to offer durability, lightness and resistance in the most demanding environments.
The different types of climbing ropes
- Dynamic ropes: Perfect for sport and indoor climbing, dynamic ropes are designed to absorb shock in the event of a fall, reducing stress on the climber and anchor points. They are available in several diameters, generally between 8.5 mm and 10.5 mm, to suit the preferences of each climber and the requirements of different routes.
- Semi-static ropes: Ideal for canyoning, caving or working at height, semi-static ropes offer low elasticity, making them ideal for abseiling and rope climbing.
- Static ropes: Mainly used for work at height and rescue operations, static ropes have no elasticity. They are ideal for situations where minimal rope elongation is required.
Choosing the right rope for your activity
The choice of rope depends on a number of factors, including the type of climbing, the length of the route, and personal preferences. For outdoor routes, we recommend using a 70 to 80-meter rope to cover the most common lengths. For indoor climbers, a shorter rope, between 30 and 40 meters, is generally sufficient.
Rope diameter also plays a crucial role: thin ropes (8.5-9 mm) are lightweight and allow smoother maneuvers, but they wear out faster and require more skill in handling. Thicker ropes (9.5-10.5 mm) offer greater durability and are more suitable for beginners.
The importance of rope maintenance
To ensure the longevity of your climbing rope, it's essential to look after it properly. Avoid leaving it in contact with abrasive or dirty surfaces, and store it away from humidity and UV rays. Occasional washing with lukewarm water and mild soap will maintain its optimum performance.
